Somatic Tools I Use As A Somatic Trauma Therapist When I’m Anxious or Dysregulated (That Aren’t Deep Breathing)
Deep breathing is a powerful tool, but it isn’t always accessible—especially if you’re anxious or stuck in fight-or-flight. As a somatic therapist, I use body-based practices like legs up the wall, gua sha, dry brushing, and orienting to help regulate my nervous system. These simple somatic therapy techniques can be especially supportive for those healing from complex trauma, relational trauma, emotional abuse, or growing up with emotionally immature or narcissistic parents.
