Somatic Therapy in Fort Collins, Colorado
Science-backed, body-focused therapy for deeper healing.
Is talk therapy not doing it for you?
If you feel that:
therapy has become dull, like you keep talking about the same things but nothing’s actually changing
talking about certain topics is more activating than it is helpful
it’s hard to find words for how you’re feeling, and trying to find them isn’t doing any good
you have extensive insight about your issues (and have maybe even been in therapy for years) yet you’re still feeling stuck
you understand patterns on an intellectual level, like “I’m not inherently bad, everyone makes mistakes” but struggle to truly feel it
you actually feel more worked up and agitated after talk therapy sessions
…it may be time to explore a somatic approach.
Where words fall short, your body holds the key to lasting transformation.
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-based approach that addresses how trauma and stress are stored in the body, not just the mind. Many "symptoms" like anxiety, low self-esteem, or difficulty with boundaries are often signs of nervous system activation, rooted in survival adaptations from past experiences. Somatic therapy helps calm these responses, allowing the body to shift from fight, flight, or freeze into a state of safety where healing can begin.
Unlike talk therapy, which can sometimes re-activate the nervous system by focusing on painful memories, somatic therapy uses the body as a pathway to healing. Practices like self-compassion, mindful breathing, and body awareness engage the nervous system’s natural ability to regulate and repair. By creating a sense of safety and connection, this approach helps individuals move out of survival states and into greater calm and presence.
Trauma lives in the body, and so does your capacity to heal.
That’s why effective therapy must involve the body.
Do you ever feel…
like your heart is going to explode as soon as you wake up?
afraid to slow down or spend time alone because as soon as you do, you’re overwhelmed with emotions?
constantly tense and tight, even in pain, or on the contrary, totally numb?
like you can’t relax without using substances, an eating disorder behavior, or scrolling?
an automatic shift in your body’s posture to become smaller when asking someone for something or saying no?
These are signs of a dysregulated nervous system.
A chronically dysregulated nervous system, often caused by trauma, underlies people-pleasing, addictive behaviors, eating disorders, numbness and disconnection, anxiety, and even chronic pain.
This is where somatic therapy comes in.
Somatic therapy can help you…
Ease the feeling of being "on edge" all the time.
Reduce the need to “take the edge off” with things that end up making you feel icky and ashamed, like eating disorder behaviors or over-relying on substances.
Feel more comfortable saying “no” and speaking up for yourself.
Slow down and smell the roses (AKA make the unexplained feeling of needing to rush through everything all the time go away).
Reduce chronic pain and other physical symptoms of stress or trauma.

Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing that helps deactivate the nervous system in ways talk therapy alone can’t. By focusing on the physical sensations tied to your emotions and experiences, it creates space for change rather than keeping you stuck in the same patterns. This work addresses trauma and stress on a bodily level, allowing you to shift out of survival mode and build a foundation for lasting growth and transformation.
