A Different Kind of Eating Disorder Therapy…

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been through a lot, not only with your relationship to food, but also with trying to get help for it. Maybe you’ve been in programs that felt rigid, controlling, or like they were happening to you rather than with you. You may have felt like you were losing your sense of agency, or that you had to comply with structures that didn’t feel safe in your nervous system.

I created this space for people who are ready for something different—something that honors your autonomy, your nervous system, and your own pace of healing.

XOXO,

Martha

About Me & Why I Approach Eating Disorder Therapy Differently

In my earlier work supporting people with eating disorders, I saw how the very environments meant to help sometimes ended up hurting. Now don’t get me wrong, these programs have helped a lot of people, but for some, it wasn’t quite right. Timed meals, strict rules, and rigid accountability measures **while necessary and lifesaving for many** often re-triggered my clients’ nervous systems. These approaches often unintentionally recreate dynamics similar to early trauma: feeling overly controlled, stripped of agency, and left with rebellion through food or eating disorder behaviors as the only options.

Watching this happen opened my eyes. I saw how some people were leaving treatment not only still struggling with food, but also feeling more disconnected and distrustful of themselves. That realization became the turning point for me as a therapist.

I decided to offer something different.
With me, you won’t be “managed” or “policed.” I’m not here to be a helicopter therapist or hold you to an external standard of what healing “should” look like. Instead, my work is centered on creating safety first—so your nervous system can settle enough for real healing to happen. We work collaboratively, and your agency is at the heart of every step.

Eating Disorder Therapy with me can help you…

  • Let me guess, right now you’re

    • Exhausted from struggling with their eating disorder and ready for a different kind of help

    • Frustrated or discouraged by previous treatment experiences that felt too rigid or disempowering

    • Anxious or activated by traditional therapy methods that don’t feel nervous-system friendly

    • Like their sense of agency and trust in themselves has been eroded by treatment or by past trauma

    • Unsure where to turn next because they want support but don’t want to be retraumatized

Who I’m a Good Fit For

I work best with people who:

  • Are looking for a non-traditional, collaborative therapy approach

  • Value autonomy, agency, and self-determination in their healing process

  • Are medically stable and not in need of intensive or highly structured care

  • Don’t need strong external accountability, but want gentle support and guidance

  • Have tried other eating disorder therapies but felt they didn’t fit—or even harmed more than helped

FAQs about Confidence and Self-Esteem Therapy

  • Self-esteem therapy works by helping you identify and challenge negative beliefs about yourself, replacing them with more compassionate and empowering perspectives. Through a combination of talking and somatic practices, you’ll learn to reconnect with your body and emotions, building a sense of safety and self-worth from within. As you gain new insights and tools, you'll develop the confidence to make choices that align with your authentic self and create healthier relationships.

  • You may need support with self-esteem if you often feel self-doubt, have difficulty asserting yourself, or struggle with negative thoughts about your worth. If you find yourself seeking constant validation from others or avoiding opportunities due to fear of failure, these are also signs that deeper work may be needed. Therapy can help you address these patterns and build the confidence and self-acceptance needed to move forward with greater ease and clarity.
